SUMMARY:Trysting Trees: BIRCH (a creative workshop based around the tree species of birch)
DESCRIPTION:Trysting Trees is a series of theoretical and creative workshops based on trees commonly found in the UK and Ireland. The project is an ongoing inquiry into plant connection\, through the lens of artists\, gardeners and foragers. In this workshop join us in growing an attunement to birch through the following methods and mediums;   \n\nMaking art materials using various parts of birch: plant dyes\, inks\, paints\, papers\, charcoal and mark making tools. \n\n\nMedicinal properties: tinctures\, wine\, flower essences\, tea infusions\, syrups. How is birch known to be helpful in aiding human health. \n\n\nExploring significance in culture and folklore. What is laying dormant in our own consciousness and how can we learn ways of integrating birch into the human experience? \n\n\nFood\, which parts of birch is edible and how. \n\n\nNaming of birch\, botanical and place specific. What can the etymology of names both common and botanical tell us. \n\n\n \n\nIdentification\, habitat\, how to grow/propagate. \n\n\nHow can we learn about birch’s integral role in the web of life. How do other species interact with birch\, and it back? \n\n\nDeveloping a personal relationship with birch\, exploring various methods to remember significant properties each tree has that we can use to help us in daily life. Finding a birch tree\, or several trees which can be visited easily in the future. \n\n\nYou will go away with a good selection of art materials made either prior to the workshop by us\, or on the day\, and an exclusive Old Mill Arts booklet all about birch.
