I’ve been to this event every year since it started. Each time I wonder how it can get any better.
I love it. It’s a complete transformation of what we know and love about the 16th Century seat of the Clan Brodie, and no-one could have ever imagined this grand building could become this huge artists’ canvas.
But it’s more than that, the team at Brodie have used it this year to celebrate the elements of fire, earth, air and water, with phoenixes swamped with flames and mermaids surrounded by water to name just two. In past years the castle has shown local wildlife, clan history and recently they’ve been asking locals to send in their pictures to use as well.
It’s not only the castle, the grounds are transformed into a maze of string lights and coloured beams. While the grounds are not huge, each year has a different route – and while there are favourites like the smoke-breathing dragon laying in wait in a cauldron of bubbling red smoke, there’s always something new to make it worth a visit.
Brodie Illuminated is open 5pm to 8pm Thursday to Sunday till the end of November. Admission Adults £14; children £9 and under 3s free, so there’s still time to see it.
