Tea in the Park, Glenlivet

WEE VISIT: This week, we visited Glenlivet for ‘quiet and quaintfood and craft exhibition

Glenlivet Hall is one of the more remote parts of Moray, but that doesn’t prevent it from being a popular venue for this annual event.

Tea in the Park is a well-organised community gathering that attracts a large number of people over its two-week run in August each year, and is run entirely by volunteers.

The hall is bedecked with hanging baskets outside, and set out as a cafe inside, offering a decent selection of soups (three when we visited) and sandwiches, bacon rolls, cakes, home-bakes, teas and coffees, all donated by the local community. Around the edge of the hall, local craftspeople displayed their creations, and at fairly reasonable prices too.

There was also a small art exhibition in the bar annexe. All profits are split between the Glenlivet Hall (for the maintenance of provision of an important community space), Tomintoul and Glenlivet Development Trust (who promote community development and events in the area) and the Glenlivet & Inveravon Community Association.

The Glenlivet & Inveravon Community Association have this year chosen to donate their portion of the profits to the Friends of Inveravon Church. They are looking to purchase, through the Scottish Land Fund, Inveravon Church. This historical asset is being sold off by the Church of Scotland and also houses ancient Pictish stones. The Friends of Inveravon hope to keep the building and the stones open to the public by creating a heritage centre.
