Pictures from Findhorn Fair 2024

The Findhorn Residents’ Association have told us the 2024 Village Fair was a great success!

The sun shone as a large crowd of villagers and visitors gathered around the piers in Findhorn Village to enjoy all the fun of the fair on the afternoon of 21 July.

There was entertainment for all ages throughout the afternoon, including live music from members of the Forres Accordion and Fiddle Club and music and singing from Neil Robertson and his daughter, Ella. In addition to the raffle and wheel of fortune, there were numerous stalls, a BBQ selling burgers and hot dogs and afternoon teas provided by Findhorn Scottish Women’s Institute. The plant stall was particularly popular and one of the highlights of the fair was the ‘Made in Findhorn’ stall which sold a wide range of products all crafted in Findhorn. This year, for the first time, there was Highland Lion and Dragon Dancing led by local Kung Fu instructor, Simon Hepple.

Association member, Morag Robertson, who organised activities for children, said: “It was lovely to see so many children taking part in the fancy dress parade and activities in the children’s marquee. ‘Toys’ was the theme for the children’s fancy dress parade. Bubbles the clown and previous winner, Zoe Robertson, judged 6-year-old twins, James and Georgia Hepple, dressed as ‘Slinky’ from Toy Story to be the winner of the best costume competition. Throughout the afternoon over 80 children enjoyed face painting, glitter tattoos, design a teddy competition and the book neuk in the family chill-out zone.”

More than 20 people took advantage of the free ‘Give it a go Coastal Rowing’. Claire Weller, Captain of Findhorn Coastal Rowers, reported: “Our two skiffs were out in the water from 1 – 3.30pm.

“Unfortunately, we had to stop earlier than planned due to increasing winds and ebbing tide.  A huge thank you to all the coxes, club rowers and members who came along and helped out.

“We couldn’t do it without them. It was great fun, even though the wind and tide made things a bit more ‘exciting’ for all the rowers who coped brilliantly, as always. Thanks to Findhorn Residents’ Association and everyone else for making it such a success”

Sam Russell, Chairperson said: “The fair is the FRA’s main fundraising event of the year, enabling the Findhorn Residents Association to improve the village environment and support local groups and good causes. Proceeds from the fair cover expenditures throughout the year, such as grass cutting, floral displays, Christmas lights, repairs to the play park, public liability insurance, etc. The final calculation is yet to be made but we hope to have raised over £3000.

“We are especially grateful to everyone who came along to support the Fair and I would like to say a sincere and very big thank you to the many local businesses who donated raffle prizes and to the volunteers who gave a huge amount of time and effort to make the Fair such a success.”

The Findhorn Residents Association meets regularly in the James Milne Institute in Findhorn. Anyone wishing to attend would be very welcome. Please get in touch if you would like more information.”
